Laura and Nick’s Wedding Day at Norwich Castle.
Wedding photography on 16-hours notice? No problem. I got the call that one of my photographer friends needed to be covered due to an emergency, and this is how it went.
The clock ticks.
OK, let’s face it head on. You’ve planned your wedding for a long, long, looooooooong time and now one of your suppliers falls through with less than a day’s notice. And in this case it’s the person that is supposed to be documenting your entire day. (As you’re reading this I know you’re having panicked sweats heart palpitations and heavy breathing, whether you’re a wedding supplier or the marrying couple). But most people in this industry will have a network of people to call on if the worst happens to them. Trust me, it’s one of our worst nightmares…save an SD Card failure (now i’m sweating too, great!)
The texts came in around 16-hours before preparations were to begin, and my first thought was 100% about the Bride and how she would be coping with this sort of news. I got on to the phone with her as soon as I could so that we could chat and so that I could alleviate any fears and stress and anxiety she may be having in that very moment. Safe to say, by the time we had finished, Laura was calm and chilled and very accepting of the situation. It was go time!
I had collected all of the details that I needed, so now it was time to lock and load. and by that I mean plug in all of my batteries and sit patiently in a dark corner whilst they charged.
Prep in the City
We had only spoken about the wedding photography just 12-hours previous, but as soon as I got to 56 Surrey Street in Norwich I could tell that everyone was in good spirits and we would be having a good time. Laura had picked a beautiful town house to get ready in and we made the most of it.
An emotional castle wedding.
There was alot of nervous energy going on as we arrived to the castle. Not in a negative way, think of the expectant nervous giggles and tapping of fingers. There were lots and lots of smiles as well as lovely chatter in the air of the ceremony room whilst everyone waited for the bride to arrive. Plenty of opportunity to do my thing.
Picture Perfect.
Once we had finished with lots of bubble blowing in place of confetti, it was time to get everyone down to the garden just at the foot of the castle. I do love the backdrops available to you in just this small area, you can make it look ever so dreamy.
A little bundle of surprise.
I didn’t know until later that day, but Laura and Nicholas planned to announce that they are expecting to all their friends and family at their reception. So we got a couple of annoucement photo’s for them Congratulations to you both and your family.
Late notice is no problem.
A huge well done and thank you has to go out to Laura and Nick who dealt with the situation so extremely well and with a positivity that everyone should be jealous of.
I really do hope that this little blog goes to show that if the worst was to happen (and I absolutely hope it does not for anyone) then there are plenty of photographers out there that are skilled and knowlegable enough to help you at short notice should you need it.
